Digital Signage Expo Keynote Breakfast: Corning's Dr. Peter Bocko Looks Forward by Looking Back

February 23, 2013

Corning CTO Dr. Peter Bocko will deliver the Wednesday's keynote breakfast address at #DSE2013.

Digital Signage Expo attendees wondering what to expect in the future of display technology will get to peek over the horizon when Dr. Peter Bocko, chief technology officer for Corning Glass Technologies and one of the foremost glass experts in the display industry, takes to the stage for Wednesday's keynote breakfast address.

In his keynote, themed "Looking Forward by Looking Back: A Futuristic Retrospective on the Trends in Display & Digital Signage," Dr. Bocko, who holds 10 patents in display and optical fiber materials and is responsible for new product innovation across Corning's glass technology businesses, will describe an increasingly display-centric, ubiquitously interconnected environment — where information access and device interaction blur the lines of information delivery, communication, marketing message immersion and entertainment.

According to Dr. Bocko, the starting point for his presentation will be Corning's "Day Made of Glass II" video and he key themes the company was trying to project: a future with ubiquitous display, highly interconnected, information dense, where the immersiveness and emotiveness engendered by advanced display is not for simply entertainment, but rather embedded in your life’s activities, a medium for collaboration, learning and personal connection.

He will then go on to describe the persistent decades-long technology trends leading there and the challenges that remain. He will also detail how engineered glass will become increasingly ubiquitous in this environment and how it serves as a gracious host for the advanced electronic functionality that delivers crisp and dynamic imagery, helps streamline the user interface and, as Corning scientists have discovered, creates a compelling sound experience.

Dr. Bocko will close with a vision of the public display application space becoming one of the most dynamic during the 2010's by virtue of more compelling value propositions for advanced capabilities such as high resolution, interactivity, 3-D, transparent displays and audio.

Sponsored by Samsung, the keynote breakfast will take place on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 7:30am - 8:45am, in the Renaissance Ballroom at the Renaissance Hotel adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center.
