I came across these two installations recently, and was wondering what you, as digital signage experts and digital out-of-home networks operators, thought of them:

Multitouch Experience Cube from SENSORY-MINDS on Vimeo.

The first one, above, is a huge videowall from Sensory Minds that made its debut in 2011. It is called the "Multitouch Experience Cube" and is a trade show event installation comprised of 23 LCD displays that make the cube come to life with 14 meters of multiple user interactions.

Inside the cube, users experience an interactive show controlled via iPhone app. 3-D visualizations created for the LED ceiling react with the multitouch LCD displays.

Urban Future from Kollision on Vimeo.

The second one, above, is 190 square meters of a 3-D LED surface that promotes the Audi Urban Future Concept with the Audi A2. The dynamic surface aims to show how the future of connected driverless cars and pedestrians will automatically interact with the typical infrastructure of the future. The surface continuously gathers information about users' movements, allowing vehicles to safely interact with the environment.

The installation receives live input from 11 Xbox Kinect cameras mounted above the area, with the cameras capturing the visitors' movement in real time and processes them into patterns of dynamic movement displayed on the LED surface. What this does is essentially demonstrate how the Audi concept will be able to interact and navigate challenges autonomously in the future.

It goes without saying that 2012 has been a very interesting year for the digital signage industry. However, looking towards the future, what ideas can you take from these installations and how do you think will they inspire others (and you) to design and create?
