Ask the Board – August 21, 2017 | RALPH SCHORBACH

What was the biggest takeaway from Digital Signage Expo 2017 that you’ve been able to use or implement in the months since the show?”

Digital Signage Expo gets bigger and better every year!  The knowledge and information available to you is immeasurable, and with this month’s question, I want to highlight some of the biggest takeaways from the show. Many times, it isn’t the “things” you take away, but about what is “given” to you.  A trade show such as DSE really immerses you in the world of digital signage.  There are vendor displays that fit with the physical and virtual environments, the now and what-is-coming items. You see the latest bendable, thinnest and largest displays you will ever see, the latest and best software and enhancements and interfaces created; so my takeaway is the energy and ideas I get talking to attendees and vendors at the show and the passionate speakers at the conference sessions. All of this gives me ideas on how to improve and change how we use our digital signage today.  Since returning from the show, we’ve scheduled upgrades on our digital signage application across the campus to get the control features we were looking for that weren’t available on previous versions, began upgrading the touch systems on our kiosk to brighter and more responsive touch panels, making automated integration hooks into our emergency notification system to display relevant information and delving into upgrading the signage package in our Hotel and Conference Center to make it a little more cutting-edge. As we begin to imagine what DSE 2018 will bring, our creative juices should be flowing with where we need to go and how to get there.  I am looking for the excitement that 2018 will bring, and I hope you are as well.
