What was the biggest takeaway from Digital Signage Expo 2017 that you’ve been able to use or implement in the months since the show?”
From a purely practical perspective, the biggest takeaways were from conversations with vendors regarding product roadmaps. Having detailed information about the timelines, features and relative costs of existing product lines and being able to compare them to future product lines is very valuable when planning projects and upgrades. It helps get the most value for our money, the features we truly need and none of the features that we do not. Even being well versed in the latest mounts and enclosures can be an integral part of my job at times – probably even more than I realize.
The other takeaways were more general in nature. I think that while display technology has and will continue to advance, other options such as narrow-pitch LED, tiled display and projection-based digital signage will deserve more consideration in certain niche applications. The exposure to products and technologies at DSE 2017 will certainly be an influence on future projects.
