What are the criteria for picking a CMS amongst the myriad of options out there?
Before you begin shopping for a new CMS, you will want to evaluate a few things. Start by creating a team of stakeholders, communications people, IT people and networking people. Find out from your IT and Network stakeholders about any limitations or rules around connecting computers or players to your company’s network. Interview your communications stakeholders to learn everything you can about your company’s content strategy and what content is meant to play on what players, etc.
Create a list of questions or requirements based on your conversations with your stakeholders and begin shopping! You may find several CMS items that meet all your requirements. If so, evaluate the finalists for their user friendliness and/or cost effectiveness. Don’t be afraid to ask for a pilot or a demo run where you and your team can have hands-on use of the CMS to further evaluate if it is the right system for your company.
