What are the criteria for picking a CMS amongst the myriad of options out there?

Similar to the media player, a general guideline for CMS selection is to not overbuy. CMSs have a number of features and functions, but they are only worth it if they will be used. Having a strategy and knowing the current and future (short- to mid-term) needs will really narrow down what your teams need in a CMS and will help drive the decision. As noted in learning sessions during DSE by experienced design and implementation teams: Do not be taken in by bells and whistles your team won’t need or use.
