What do you value most about Digital Signage Expo (DSE), and why do you come back every year and recommend that your peers return as well?”
I was at the very first DSE in San Francisco where you probably could visit all the exhibitors within one to two hours. That was back in 2004. I have seen the DSE and the business of digital signage grow in leaps and bounds over these years. I’ve attended every DSE event each year because they bring new surprises along with familiar faces and old friends. We used to talk about MPEG-2 video and plasma display technology. We now see HTML-5, OLED and E-ink. DSE is the one place where the science, art and business of digital science converge at a single event. DSE has become digital signage’s ‘treffpunkt’ where thought leadership from every discipline and perspective of digital signage come together to share invaluable insights, perspectives and experiences.
The technologies, implementations and business models within the digital signage umbrella continue to evolve and mature very quickly. Attending just a single event and then suggesting that you now ‘know’ digital signage is limiting. Digital signage now encompasses mobile, corporate communications and broader marketing and merchandising strategies. And every year, it brings new insights, experiences and ‘lessons-learned.’ That is one of the primary reasons that I make the annual pilgrimage to DSE. There has never been a single year where I don’t learn several invaluable insights or make relationships that make me a better professional and business person.
