As exterior LED displays become appropriate for more and more applications, what kind of innovation do you see on the horizon in terms of reinforcing your brand?”


We here at LA Metro are excited about exterior LED displays and the new opportunities they offer for the public transit industry. We have more than100 transit stations in the region, most of which are exposed to the elements. With real-time arrival data updates every 30 seconds, having displays that can withstand the elements is crucial for customer support.

The agency is currently in the process of connecting its fleet of 2,400 buses with Wi-Fi/cellular service. One innovation of extreme interest to the agency is the replacement of paper advertising posters on the outside of our buses with digital displays. Digital displays can generate significantly more advertising revenue by displaying more than one advertisement. Furthermore, by using the vehicle’s GPS coordinates, advertising can be dynamically targeted based on the vehicle’s current location for even greater revenue opportunities

Lastly, external displays mounted on all of our fleet will allow LA Metro to convey its transit messages to the public much more cost effectively than displays limited only to static locations. Broadcasting geographically targeted public service messages will provide LA Metro the opportunity to extend its public outreach and goodwill for the communities it serves.
