What are some ways to localize content on a large-scale digital signage network?”

In a large-scale digital signage network, it is imperative to have the option of localizing content in order to reduce the amount of bandwidth used. Where I work, we have incorporated many ways to do this. The main portion of our digital signage system uses PC’s, which send a multicast stream through an encoder to several set top boxes. While several others have a PC located behind the display where content is cached keeping the network traffic to a minimum. The last type of signage used is a media player that stores the content locally. In this last scenario, the only bandwidth used is when content is changed; otherwise, the content displays even if the network connection is lost.
