With so many flat-panel display options now on the market, what is the best approach to making the best choice for a project?
For a public agency, the answer depends on the funding source. When the money is from the general fund, we look for a long-term solution that is versatile enough to evolve with the least amount of expense because the goal of the signage is to inform. Other signage from specific funding sources (airports and convention centers) can also inform, but with the addition of entertainment value that together makes up the “branding” of the city. These displays might have a shorter public lifespan and newer, brighter, bigger and innovative technology might be the goal. Public opinion and functionality is the only way the city can guess the ROI on the investment. We do not have sales data to measure effectiveness.
