How can you make digital signage environmentally respectful?”

Any environmentally respectful digital signage program begins with the technology selection process. We seek out Energy Star certified systems, especially if we are looking to achieve LEED Certification. Energy-efficient displays with LED backlight technology are a great way to decrease the overall energy footprint. From a media player perspective, recent low-power and high-efficiency fan-less solutions pack enough power to drive 4K resolution at a reduced power level.

We also look for solutions that allow for scheduled sleep times and drive energy efficiency after hours while increasing the lifetime of the hardware. In addition, dynamic brightness options for digital displays can sense the ambient lighting conditions and change the brightness and power consumption in real time.

One area that is often overlooked is the disposal of equipment upon end of life. The proper recycling and disposal of electronics can greatly reduce the environmental impact.
