What are your top three takeaways from a digital signage overhaul?
My top three takeaways from a digital signage overhaul are essentially the same lessons learned from implementing a digital signage system in the first place.
- Understand your goal/objective: In order to ensure you have a successful deployment/overhaul, you must know what your goal is and how you can measure the level of success against the goal. You also get the bonus of controlling scope creep if you don’t move the goalposts on what defines a success for your project.
- Ensure you have organized the proper support\engagement from both internal and external stakeholders. In many cases, I’ve heard ‘if only I was consulted, or if they’d asked me…’ and it gives you a much greater buy-in on your end result than if you’d just done the project without consultation and involvement from all interested parties.
- Understand the reasons for the overhaul: Is it to update the look and feel? Is it tied to a rebranding effort? How does this involve the organization’s goals, message and culture? Sometimes, change for the sake of change and the wow factor of the new is not really what you’re trying to accomplish. Maybe the current state just requires minor tweaks instead of major overhauls.
