Are there any appropriate applications for consumer displays in your experience? Why or why not?

Using a consumer-grade screen might make sense depending on the use case for the panel, but I personally don’t know of any reason to use a consumer-grade display in a commercial environment.

In most cases, a business of any kind will have a (signage) display running for more than 12 hours per day. In some cases, businesses run them 24-hours per day. This kind of usage pattern will degrade a consumer unit faster than a commercial unit, which has been designed to meet or exceed those operating requirements.

Consumer units are designed to run in fairly controlled environments whereas commercial-grade units can be subject to “hostile environments” such as restaurants. Generally speaking, I don’t believe the warranties associated with consumer units would be in line with the operational needs of a commercial establishment.
