Are there any appropriate applications for consumer displays in your experience? Why or why not?

Using a consumer display in a commercial application is not appropriate in most situations. Although, if deployment is limited to a few screens that are not active 24 hours a day, or if screens are needed for a temporary purpose (a pilot to convince major stakeholders of its value), a consumer screen could act as a temporary solution.

Over time, the screen limitations become obvious, like the inability to lock out controls or the inconsistent screen image. If hours of operation were increased, which would put stress on lower quality screen components, it would be time to replace the screen with a permanent commercial display.
