On what basis should a network owner/operator make the decision to operate the network in-house or outsource the operation?
To me, this comes down to a financial evaluation, based on the size of the owner’s organization. Larger companies will typically have the personnel that can handle operation of a digital signage network, or the resources to create those positions as part of an overall strategy. The issue starts to blur when the organization will definitely have to create something from scratch, and the initial cost may be very high. Then it makes sense to look at outsourcing. Also, the outsourcing question should involve who is reselling the equipment and providing installation and support services. The outsourced services group may be able to take everything over, making the entire project much more convenient and cost-managed.
