“What do you see changing in the digital signage space during this pandemic that might positively or negatively impact your workflow?”


As a signage technology leader, I have found that there are three capabilities that have become extraordinarily important during these COVID times:

  1. Having a more flexible Content Management System,
  2. Being able to modify self-serve touch kiosks, and
  3. Being able to remotely manage hardware.

First, we had some dedicated-use digital signs in both orientations (portrait and landscape) that needed large or full-screen safety messaging. In some cases, the signs already had slots for ads, but in other cases, we needed to be able to alternate the primary content with safety messaging.

Second, we needed to convert touchscreens and kiosks that had buttons into non-touch signage systems. We had to change the application and content logic in order to not only provide a self-serve main menu, but also to be able to automatically display information and safety messages. In some cases, this also involved minor enclosure/kiosk modifications.

Third, while we are comfortable with periodic network-based content updates, doing advanced work was difficult with reduced field access. This situation required a lot of remote management in order to update hardware settings and applications without actually visiting each location.  

Finally, our industry sometimes gets carried away with more pixels and colors, but it is always good to maintain your fundamental signage capabilities.  Stay safe!
