“What technology will replace Quick Response (QR) codes in the future?”

QR codes are the Twinkies of the digital world. They seem to keep surviving no matter what. There has been talk of “QR Code Killers” since 2011, but here they are, still playing a part in the game. In my humble opinion, I don’t think there’s going to be anything to replace them anytime soon. Now that you don’t need a spate app to read/scan them, it’s much easier for a customer to use them. The technology is now built-in to the phone’s camera to recognize it. Not to mention, there’s nothing else for the person to “opt-in” for as it’s available on-demand. If a viewer wants more information about something… they scan the code and move on. So, even in their “ugliness,” they are a simple and effective way to have someone receive a takeaway from your signage. I think they are here, and they will be for a long time to come.
