“What technology will replace Quick Response (QR) codes in the future?”

Depending on what you read, 2019 was declared “The year of the QR Code.” Once thought to be sitting atop the heap of the ‘hot tech’ graveyard, QR codes have made a huge comeback thanks in large part to smartphones and social media apps that have made it easier to scan the code. While NFC is a proven technology, the deployment depends on the use case. I don’t think it’s clear whether there is a successor, but there are a few new kids on the block so to speak. There’s the ‘Blipper,’ which works off of photographs in the real world and converts it into to interactive experiences. Then, there’s the Microsoft Tag and Google Goggles. Each has promise, but whether they will replace the QR code will depend on how interoperable they are with different devices and platforms.
