“What are some of the ways to get employees involved in generating content (or content ideas) for a digital signage network?”
Employee creativity is one of the best methods of generating content and ideas for a signage network. This comes from a sense of buy-in and commitment from your staff. Generally, what we’ve discovered is that if people feel that their voice is being heard, they will be willing contributors to content. For the most part, our content from employees here is used mainly in the corporate communications portion of our digital signage that includes birthdays, significant events, classified ads, and stories about things people do outside of work.
For example, our latest signage and ‘newsletter’ featured one of our staff being in a band, which is something none of us would have expected out of him at first glance. For guest-facing content, we allow our staff to have input on what the displays should look like, especially at certain times of year, when specific color schemes may go with the décor of the season. I know others have also looked at integrating twitter feeds or other social media that stems from staff as well. We also encourage our budding photographers to bring us content that they’d like to see on our video wall, especially with great views of the city.
