“What are the challenges with migrating from an on-premise solution to a cloud-based solution?”

One of the biggest challenges in migrating from an on-premise solution to a cloud-based solution is ensuring proper network security. With an on-premise solution, you run the solution on the internal corporate network and the inherent security that comes with being a “private” network. Once you move to the cloud, you want to protect your solution from being compromised either with blocking connectivity to the cloud server or by hacking into the network. There are many ill-intentioned actions that hackers can take, which is why security of the solution and your network is important.

One aspect that also comes into play, while not being technical, is the move from capital to operational expense. For some organizations, moving to a committed term contract for a cloud solution and increasing the operational budget can be a significant decision.

There are many benefits to moving to a cloud-based solution, such as using current software maintained by the solution provider and being hosted on a highly available environment to meet high up-time requirements.
