“How will Near Field Communication (NFC) connectivity change digital signage in the next five years?”
The other day I was at a manufacturer’s showroom and asked them that very same question. It was clear to me from the products they featured that NFC isn’t going anywhere soon. As more and more of us start carrying bank cards, or using wearables that allow us to tap instead of swipe or chip, the use of and acceptance of the technology will increase. Several digital signage verticals are beginning to incorporate NFC into their POS systems tied to digital signage like retail and QSR. More will follow as customers’ expectations to encounter the technology rise. The onramp is clearly being prepped for an NFC takeoff, and digital signage will definitely be along for the ride today and into the near future.
