“Does gesture control really have a place in digital signage, or is it a flash-in-the-pan trend?”
Gesture control is still in its early days, but it promises powerful and useful applications. We are just now learning about its potential in the office, in gaming, and in retail environments.
At work, we will be able to move quickly and accurately between applications by touching, swiping, and gesturing. We will use it to cut, paste, and move copy and images. It is likely that we will collaborate with others using gesture control to work in three dimensions, developing new efficiencies with colleagues long distance or just in another part of the building.
Gamers have long recognized the potential for gesture control and eagerly consider its possible applications. And wayfinding, directories, and countless other uses make gesture control a natural for the retail environment.
Flash in the pan? Absolutely not. Still in discovery mode? You bet.
