“Does gesture control really have a place in digital signage, or is it a flash-in-the-pan trend?”

Whether or not gesture control is viable depends on what your digital signage goals are. If you are looking for creative ways to grab the public’s attention, gesture control could be an interesting way to activate content triggered by potential customers.

For example, if you had a storefront with an outward-facing display, motion control could activate the screen, and gesture control technology could then allow the public to swipe through a series of items that might be of interest to them. This could help turn a would-be “window shopper” into a potential customer.

There are lots of bells and whistles that can be added to a digital signage network. I would not advise adding just for the sake of adding. There should be a solid business case for any enhancement to your digital signage network.
