“What is your opinion on using traditional video wall panels vs. tight-pitch LEDs?”
I’m actually agnostic on the question of whether it’s best to use traditional video wall panels vs. tight-pitched LEDs. Your creative will stand out with either choice. However, as with any equipment purchase, it comes back to objectives, use case and budget. Traditional video wall installations are a known quantity and an attractive addition to a lobby, recreational area or other location within a space. The screens can be installed with the proper enclosure for the space in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement that supports existing or new construction, providing the ability to message customers, employees or others just passing by. Tight-pitch LEDs, while increasing in popularity, still have a way to go when it comes to durability, and as such, can’t be placed in all the areas traditional video walls currently fit. As manufacturers improve, methods to protect the diodes from breaking when brushed against or touched, tight-pitch LEDs will be able to complete with traditional video walls on placement. But given that tighter-pitch LEDs require more electronic infrastructure, which adds to cost, they still have some work to do when it comes to budget.
