“What was your biggest takeaway from DSE 2018?”


DSE was another great show this past year. As always, the meetings were great, and it is refreshing to walk the floor and look at the latest and greatest products. One stand-out was the number of vendors showcasing very tight-pitch SMD LEDs.

While there is much to complement about the show this year, I’d rather use my response to focus on how I believe we could make the show an even greater success next year. My three biggest takeaways from DSE 2018 are that 1) I think we need to re-focus our sessions to teach, not talk, about accomplishments. While the accomplishments are great to show off what can be done, it doesn’t help the up-and-coming to replicate and help grow industry awareness and value. 2) I think we need to exploit the DSE app to really wow those attending. The app could be used to change content (think Minority Report) on show floor displays and as a means to communicate with attendees long after the show has ended. 3) I would like the opportunity to see displays showcased outside. This is especially true for my industry where we are mostly outdoors, and being able to see products under the Vegas sun would be an additional benefit that would attract additional attendees.
