“What are effective cost-reduction strategies that can be employed with digital signage to keep your capital investment and maintenance low?”


From a content perspective, if you develop or hire a company to create content, make sure you add in evergreen content (long staying power) for times when you don’t have immediate content. This will save you time trying to make or locate new content during slow weeks or months. Similarly, when building templates or layouts, try to leverage live and dynamic data; build it once and this avoids repeat resource work. On the technical and data side, make sure time is spent up front building in workflows. System checks and balances like scheduled tasks or error synchronizers can help catch issues before they are seen on the screen; automatic emails to an alias, for instance, to notify that the weather feed or database hasn’t changed. Additionally, look for a partner work source to help with daily tasks that is a team, not an individual, so that your main resource and brainpower doesn’t revolve around one person. When hiring the company resource, multitask them with other similar jobs, not just digital signage. This helps with attrition and training and allows for scalability.
