Ask the Board – September 10, 2018 | IGNAZ GORISCHEK

“There appears to be an industry consensus on the need for industry standards and measurement. How should the industry go about developing and implementing these?”

Anytime a group consensus is required, the conversation and end goal can derail. My first question is, even though the industry feels there is a need, who will take the lead? Perhaps a group of professionals in the industry are brought together and charged with creating a standard that all need to follow. This, as I said, can be a laborious process but would at least be a starting point. My experience has been that others will follow if the correct leaders are put into place.  Is there a clear understanding of the specific needs and what the desired results are? If not, it’s a great place to start. The right team with clear objectives and goals should be able to move the needle, start the conversation, and create a standard that others can follow.
