“SoC vs Media Players: With more and more manufacturers offering System on a Chip (SoC) solutions, what’s the tipping point end users need to consider when planning their solutions?”
SoC can be a great option for eco concerns and power consumption restrictions as well as tight budgets. While many display technologies are offering SoC, there is still a “wild west” out there for SoC because manufacturers are creating their own SoCs with multiple versions, standards and firmwares. There are plenty of limitations with SoC in security, changing resolutions, IoT support, and 32-inch+ touchscreen adoption. SoC is promising and it hasn’t converged yet with media players, although, media players have come down in cost too. Media players, while separate hardware, offer more flexibility in deployments and CMS options. If your deployment isn’t fully baked and locked, media players offer that extra flexibility.
