“SoC vs Media Players: With more and more manufacturers offering System on a Chip (SoC) solutions, what’s the tipping point end users need to consider when planning their solutions?”

System-on-Chip is a relatively new technology, but it is certainly growing as compared to media players in the digital signage universe.  Some topics to evaluate when planning solutions that benefit SoC include cost and installation.  From what I’ve seen and read for SoC, it can make your life much easier when it comes to the installation vs. media players, the latter requiring additional hardware and resources.  SoC can ultimately save you money, and it doesn’t require as much additional power as an external media player.

Another vital topic to consider is the content you plan to display.  If it’s simple graphics, and small-file size videos, then SoC works.  If there are plans for multiple videos and feeds at the same time, it lends itself to give media players more consideration.
