“SoC vs Media Players: With more and more manufacturers offering System on a Chip (SoC) solutions, what’s the tipping point end users need to consider when planning their solutions?”

Here are the pros and cons, starting with the obvious need for eliminating an external media player. The SoC Smart Displays will not require Media Players, thus saving the cost of $350+ per Media Player x 4 in Bojangles’ stores, saving $1,600 per install. However, on the flip-side, external media players can be easily replaced for less than half the cost of replacing an entire “Smart Display” should there be a malfunction or failure. This, to me, is the tipping point, and while a Smart Display may be price effective for a smaller, single-display situation, larger displays may opt to continue using media players that can be replaced, switched out and upgraded if needed.
