  1. In my experience, the ‘total cost of ownership’ (TCO) is the most overlooked part of creating a new digital signage network. So many people consider the initial costs such as the cost of the hardware, software and installation, however, very few people realize and analyze the true costs to support a network over a period of time. Items like failure rates, downtime, refreshing content, ongoing content management, hardware refreshes/life cycle management, and most importantly support are all too often overlooked or not given enough ‘weight’ when doing the business case for digital signage.

In my experience, there is a direct correlation between how much you invest upfront vs. how much you pay over time. For example: investing more upfront costs on a commercial display and you will reduce your ongoing costs by reducing downtime, hardware replacements, and support costs. Yes you pay more upfront, but if you add the up front and ongoing costs together, it will be cheaper over a 3-5 year period for you to purchase a commercial display.
