This goal of this project was to create an interactive campus information touchscreen. It was built into a flat table within DePauw University’s Alumni Center for students, visitors and alumni to access information. This content project features an interactive university timeline and a repository of donor information and tributes, specifically where users can locate donation plaques and bricks throughout the campus. The donation information goes back more than 100 years.
The objective of the project was to create one single locator that housed two types of content for the university: (1) a historical timeline that allows users to browse images and video, and (2) tribute-finding for the entire campus. This kiosk serves as a central location where users can easily navigate important information and find their way around campus.
The design team faced many iterations and revisions throughout the project. Plus, they had to meet a hard deadline in time for the Alumni Center opening.
To effectively manage numerous changes, the team built a custom database where all stakeholders could contribute. In turn, they could more effectively monitor edits as more milestones were added to the historical timeline. The creation of the database allowed the project to move much faster.
The Alumni Center opened successfully in the fall of 2018. The kiosk continues to be a staple for educating visitors, students, and alumni about DePauw’s history, and it informs them where to locate historical tributes throughout the campus.
