Speaker Bios: Doug Anderson is a native-born Californian. He was hired in response to a board motion made by Los Angeles Mayor and Board President Eric Garcetti for the creation of a strategic technology department to advance new technologies focused on improving the customer experience in transit. Currently, Anderson is exploring outreach to transit customers via a number of technologies including equipping the fleet of vehicles with Wi-Fi and digital displays, adding a social media component to the mobile trip planner and adopting ibeacons for use in wayfinding and gamification applications.
As IT Product Manager at Dunkin’ Brands, the franchisor for Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin Robbins, Jason Stuehmer led technology initiatives with internal business partners and Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees. Stuehmer managed the technology aspect of the in-store digital signage strategy including hardware, software and vendor relationships. One of Stuehmer’s biggest challenges with Digital Menu Boards in QSR is integrating multiple technologies for pricing and regulatory compliance (nutritional information). Stuehmer has more than 10 years of experience in software product management and video editing/production. He earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree in Broadcasting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Stuehmer is now heading up the digital signage effort for Massachussetts Bay Transportation Authority.
Derek Fretheim is the Director of Business Development of moovel North America. He is responsible for building and strengthening partnerships with third-party service providers, transportation network companies and various mobility providers. Additionally, he serves as the lead on moovel’s MaaS strategy, Smart Cities initiatives and on-demand product suite. He is instrumental in developing programs and strategies to expand reach of moovel’s products and services. Prior to joining moovel, Fretheim served as a consultant and worked with cities and transit agencies to develop customer technology plans and implementations within the transportation space. A champion of self-service solutions, he has pioneered mobility hub development strategies for the City of Los Angeles, developed multimodal trip planners and digital wayfinding, managed real-time traffic initiatives, helped Los Angeles Metro develop its Customer Technology Investment Strategy and much more. In addition, Fretheim has launched start-up bike share and EV car share programs and secured over $250M in grant funding for a variety of mobility projects. He started his career as a Transportation Programs Manager at the Orange County Transportation Authority in 1990.
Moderator Bio: Mischa Wanek-Libman serves as executive editor of Mass Transit magazine. She is responsible for developing and maintaining the magazine’s editorial direction. She is based out of the Arlington Heights office.
Wanek-Libman has spent more than 17 years covering transportation issues including construction projects and engineering challenges for various commuter railroads and transit agencies.
Wanek-Libman is a graduate of Drake University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with a major in magazine journalism and a minor in business management.
