Summary: The eighth in the free first-quarter webinar series leading up to Digital Signage Expo 2018, this webinar presentation and discussion will benefit Convention Center administrators, technologists and communications and marketing professionals responsible for their facility’s digital communications network.
Titled, “Enhancing the Convention Center Experience with Digital Signage,” the 30-minute session will be moderated by IACM Member Bill McDonald, with presenters Lawrence Chang, Director of IT for Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, and Mark Geiger, Advertising Sales Manager of Products and Services for Georgia World Congress Center.

Speaker Bios: Lawrence Chang serves as the director of IT for the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre. He has been working in the computer and telecommunications field for more than fifteen years. During this time, he has held a number of positions working as a network architect/administrator and as an IT consultant. He brings his depth of experience, technical skills and management capabilities to his current position, where he sets the strategic direction for the CTCC’s operations and technology, supports the administration and management operations as well as the Centre’s client-side IT and telecommunications services. Lawrence holds a Bachelor of Technology in Network Management from SAIT Polytechnic.
In his current role at the Georgia World Congress Center, Mark Geiger manages revenue-generating initiatives for the fourth largest convention center in North America. These initiatives include corporate advertising sales, convention/trade show sponsorship and utilization of the center’s extensive and growing digital signage network he helped create in 2008. Geiger has held marketing and communication leadership roles with Atlanta‑based Acuity Brands as well as Turner Broadcasting. He also served 21 years in the U.S. Army, 14 of those years as an active‑duty photo journalist.
Bill McDonald has been Chief Information Officer at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) for the past 15 years. He is responsible for the data networking services for events held at the MTCC and the business applications and technology infrastructure used within the MTCC. A year ago, McDonald’s role expanded to include the management and sales of the various digital signage assets to the events held at the MTCC. These signs include meeting room signs, general purpose and wayfinding signs, external marquees and the recently added five large-format digital media walls. In addition to revenue opportunities, these signs have transformed the MTCC experience for show managers, exhibitors and attendees. Prior to joining the MTCC, McDonald held various technology positions in the Canadian oil and gas industry.
