Thank you for registering for DSE 2018! We can’t wait to see you at the Las Vegas Convention Center in March. As our attendee welcome letter explained, MyDSE is the medium we use to make you aware of all DSE 2018 has to offer so you can get the most out of your trip to Las Vegas. Toward that end, in this and every issue leading up to the show, we’ll share with you a brief Attendee Tip.
First, we’ll suggest how to prepare for the show. Next, we’ll offer suggestions for making the most of your time at the show. And finally, we’ll provide ideas for the important but often overlooked follow-up after the show.
Preparation is Key to Maximizing Time at DSE
We realize that attending a trade show is an investment, and we believe it is our job to help you maximize the return on your investment (ROI). And that job begins now with Tip #1: Identify and write down your reasons for attending DSE and what you would like to get out of the show.
As this first tip is so important, we’re going to take the time to elaborate on it. That’s because it’s not only the foundation for all the tips that follow but also the key to maximizing your expo ROI.
Often we see attendees arrive at DSE without a good understanding of the size and scope of the show. Consequently, they end up following their noses rather than engaging in purposeful meetings with exhibitors, stimulating discussions with peers or attending the education sessions most relevant to their needs. So, instead of returning home with the solid information they need to launch, grow or improve their digital signage, they find that they have few if any ideas they can apply for the time and expense they put into their attendance.
So you don’t become one of those lost trade show souls, let’s take a few moments to do as Tip #1 suggests, which we’ll break down for you as the following steps:
- Identify your reasons for attending
- Write down your reasons
- Write down what you would like to get out of the show
Jotting Down Your Reasons for Attending
We can help you with step No. 1 because we know from experience what most attendees seek from a trade show:
- You want to keep up to date on new products, services and applications.
- You need to purchase products or services to launch, expand or update a digital signage system.
- You want to network and exchange ideas with your peers.
- You want to further your knowledge through professional education on topics relevant to the status of your digital signage network and your role in its operation.
Your needs and wants may be any one or combination of these four. That’s for you to determine, to prioritize and to write down so you have the start of your personal roadmap to the show. Additionally, for each of those objectives, you need to describe in a few words the specifics you’re looking for.
For example, if you’re planning to purchase products to update an existing digital signage system, what types of products are you looking for: Displays? Software? Connectivity solutions? Other?
I’m sure you get the point, so I won’t elaborate further. Just don’t underestimate the importance of this first tip. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
With so much new for you to see, hear and do, DSE 2018 may be a larger tree than you expect. Knowing the event as well as we do, we can say with confidence that the time spent sharpening your axe will be time well spent.
What to Expect from MyDSE Going Forward
In the coming weeks, we’ll share details on hotels and transportation, the DSE app (available soon!), and education at the show, as well as how to establish a plan of attack for the exhibit hall floor.
If you have any questions about DSE or need our help to improve your experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Attendee Relationship Manager, Tara Grooms (firstname.lastname@example.org).
