Hello From Tomorrow: Coates Group Opens Chicago Headquarters


Coates Group, the 50-plus-year-old Sydney, Australia-based company specializing in digital menu boards for the Quick-Service Restaurant (QSR) vertical, just opened its digital marketing and innovation lab on Madison Street in Chicago on September 29, 2016. The lab will serve as the Coates Group’s U.S. headquarters and allow the tight-knit team to plant their feet as they continue and expand their partnership with McDonald’s–the QSR juggernaut that started its own legacy not too far from the Windy CIty in 1955.

In addition to christening the occasion with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, Coates Group took the opportunity to showcase all of the digital signage and menu board innovation it’s pioneered for McDonald’s and its futuristic makeover–hence the evening’s tagline “Hello From Tomorrow.” These innovations include a smart drive-thru application that anticipates what you’d like to purchase based on your license plate and your last order as well as an augmented reality prototype that uses a HTC VR headset to give operators and franchise owners a POV for what it might feel like to build and maintain COATES’ kiosk enclosures. 

Digital Signage Connection was live on the scene to capture the spirit of the evening as well as speak with CEO Leo Coates about the company’s move overseas, the rich history and the team’s passionate vision for the future. Check out the video below:
