LED Display Wows in Chicago’s Prudential One Plaza

Pixelfire created unique artistic content for a 7-foot by 50-foot, 4-millimeter NanoLumens LED display in the newly remodeled lobby of the prominent Prudential One tower in the heart of downtown Chicago.

Nominating Company: PIXELFIRE, Renton, Washington
Venue: Prudential One Plaza – Chicago, Chicago, Illinois
Project: Prudential One Tower Lobby
Category: Public Spaces

Create at least one piece that is interactive. Create 12-15 minutes of original content in the native – almost 4K – screen resolution that is artistic. The goal was to create content that was ambient and stylish but exciting. We also were asked to provide a soundtrack for all of the pieces created.

There were a few challenges in how to make everything work from a player perspective, but with help from the dynamic Sedna platform, we were able to pull off all of the client requests seamlessly for a budget far south of typical.

This project was truly satisfying creatively. We were able to exercise our 3D chops starting with a truly blank canvas. We created a time lapse of an actual size piece of graffiti being created and then brought it to life. We got to shoot some amazing drone aerial footage of Chicago. The most challenging and rewarding piece was probably creating an interactive piece that utilizes a Microsoft Kinect sensor to turn the motion of the audience in front of the display into part of the art on screen.

The results were excellent. Our client was pleased, and we are already creating new pieces for the screen. The screen is the centerpiece of a truly beautiful corporate lobby in one of the most prestigious and historic buildings in the Chicago skyline. We are truly proud of the work we did here.

PIXELFIRE  was nominated for a DSE 2016 APEX Award in the Public Spaces category.

The project also included the following companies as partners:

JLL / Jones Lang LaSalle – Building Manager/Client
NanoLumens – Screen Hardware
Sensory Technologies – Installation/System Integrator
