Twin Cities Metro Area Watershed Management Organization Informs Citizens and Increases Dwell Time with Interactive DS Network

The Mississippi Watershed Management Organization is one of about three dozen watershed organizations in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. It provides long-term management of its water and land resources through projects, programs and policies that respect ecosystem principles and reflect changing community values.

Nominating Company: Tightrope Media Systems, Saint Paul, Minnesota
Venue: Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Project: Mississippi Watershed Management Organization
Category: Business & Government Services

BACKGROUND
The MWMO sought to extend its educational and communication initiatives through an interactive digital signage network. Powered by Tightrope Media Systems and its Carousel system, the network delivers stunning visual content across three landscape screens (1920×1080 resolution) in the skyway (two) and ‘dry classroom’ (one).

CHALLENGES
With all three screens sharing content, the visual emphasis needed to be on panoramic, full-screen visuals (such as downtown Minneapolis and the associated river view) and imaging maps that enabled visitors to highlight and click on up to 16 points for additional information. Upon click execution, a floating pin was to appear above the associate image with up to 140 characters of additional text. The screens also needed to default to an animated screensaver in order to draw attention during periods of inactivity.

Tightrope’s Creative Services division worked in cooperation with the MWMO to create content and graphical layouts for the screens, with training to educate MWMO end users on content management and updates using Carousel’s flexible, user-friendly, web-based interface. A separate admin portal facilitates the addition of new pin locations and content for each image as desired.

RESULTS
Visitors are engaging with the screens, and the MWMO recognized a sharp increase in dwell times.

Project Partners include the Tierney Brothers.
