Venture-Backed Brands Look to Out-of-Home Advertising to Amplify Brand Awareness

NEW YORK, Feb. 5, 2018 — OUTFRONT Media Inc. (NYSE: OUT) announced today that the company has launched out-of-home (“OOH”) campaigns with 100 venture-backed brands in 2017, a 30 percent increase from 2016. Some notable collaborations include TodayTix, WeWork, Oscar, MakeSpace, Casper, Rent The Runway, Bumble, and more.

“Out-of-home advertising continues to be a valuable platform for all brands looking to build awareness and make a splash, and the tremendous growth in interest from startups and the broader tech community is a testament to the value these companies are seeing as a result of their campaigns,” said Jodi Senese, OUTFRONT Media’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “OUTFRONT’s work with 100 venture-backed brands in 2017 is reflective of this trend. We will continue to educate the market about the benefits of using OOH to reach coveted on-the-go audiences.”

With large corporations dominating TV advertising and issues like brand safety and a lack of transparency plaguing much of the digital landscape, startups and other groups are investing in OOH advertising to connect with their audiences. For venture-backed companies marching toward profitability, OOH advertising presents a low cost solution that provides a clear understanding of ad placement geared toward audiences in specific locations, and an extensive track record for return on spend in the key urban areas where their customers reside.

“OOH has been critical for TodayTix, especially within the subway and trains in NYC. It allows us to reach a critical mass of locals with a high propensity to engage with our brand, through unique ad units that allow us to get creative in starting a conversation,” said Sarah Bidnick, VP of Marketing at TodayTix. “For our 2017 rebrand, OOH was a great way for us to balance impact and education with a takeover of the hallway in the 42nd Street – Port Authority station, which leads to an exit directly in the heart of the theater district. It was impossible to walk through that tunnel without noticing the campaign, and we used bite-sized messages, which, all together, gave a big impression as a passerby walked down the hall.”
